25 / HISTORICAL SAM SHARPE SQUARE
Sam Sharpe Square commemorates one of Jamaican´s national heroes. A black slave, Sam Sharpe, led the fight for freedom in the 1831 Christmas Rebellion. He was captured and hanged on this square with other slaves. Also at the site is the Cage, it was once used as a temporary prison for runaway slaves. Burchell Babtist Church is where Sharpe was a deacon. On this square used to be the biggest Jamaican trade with slaves.
